Help choosing the right hardware for stepper torque control

Hi,

for a project in which I need a torque control on a motor, I want to implement it with a stepper and SimpleFOC to make it as cheap as possible.

Actually the motor will work in winding/unwindig application with constant tension (so the torque varies depending on the diameter of the winding), and theres’s a tension sensor which provides feedback.

What type of driver board do you suggest?

Do you think voltage mode or estimated current mode will be sufficent, or do you suggest current sensing? And if so, what’s the suggested driver board? A pair of BLDC boards using two phases each? And which one do you suggest?

The application is:
SPEED MIN 0.015 rpm
SPEED MAX 750 rpm
TORQUE MIN 0.1 Nm
TORQUE MAX 2 Nm

The suitable motor draws about 4.5 A at 48V for those performances.

Thank you
