Testing 6pwm_standalone example not working STM32F405RGT7

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get the example (bldc_driver_6pwm_standalone.ino) to check 6PWM function with a STM32F405RT7 generic board base on the VESC project from Owen_Williams (Link here)
But it isn’t working

My board is using the external clock (25Mhz) and pin config as below:

board_vesc_4_12.h

#include <Arduino.h>

void SystemClock_Config(void)
{
  RCC_OscInitTypeDef RCC_OscInitStruct = {0};
  RCC_ClkInitTypeDef RCC_ClkInitStruct = {0};

  /** Configure the main internal regulator output voltage
  */
  __HAL_RCC_PWR_CLK_ENABLE();
  __HAL_PWR_VOLTAGESCALING_CONFIG(PWR_REGULATOR_VOLTAGE_SCALE1);
  /** Initializes the RCC Oscillators according to the specified parameters
  * in the RCC_OscInitTypeDef structure.
  */
  RCC_OscInitStruct.OscillatorType = RCC_OSCILLATORTYPE_HSE;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.HSEState = RCC_HSE_ON;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLState = RCC_PLL_ON;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLSource = RCC_PLLSOURCE_HSE;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLM = 25;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLN = 336;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLP = RCC_PLLP_DIV2;
  RCC_OscInitStruct.PLL.PLLQ = 4;
  if (HAL_RCC_OscConfig(&RCC_OscInitStruct) != HAL_OK)
  {
    Error_Handler();
  }
  /** Initializes the CPU, AHB and APB buses clocks
  */
  RCC_ClkInitStruct.ClockType = RCC_CLOCKTYPE_HCLK|RCC_CLOCKTYPE_SYSCLK
                              |RCC_CLOCKTYPE_PCLK1|RCC_CLOCKTYPE_PCLK2;
  RCC_ClkInitStruct.SYSCLKSource = RCC_SYSCLKSOURCE_PLLCLK;
  RCC_ClkInitStruct.AHBCLKDivider = RCC_SYSCLK_DIV1;
  RCC_ClkInitStruct.APB1CLKDivider = RCC_HCLK_DIV4;
  RCC_ClkInitStruct.APB2CLKDivider = RCC_HCLK_DIV2;

  if (HAL_RCC_ClockConfig(&RCC_ClkInitStruct, FLASH_LATENCY_5) != HAL_OK)
  {
    Error_Handler();
  }
}

I have been able to get the BLDCDriver3PWM to work with all of pin config above, but the frequency output is wrong.

Setting: driver.pwm_frequency = 50000;
=> Result: 1Khz

Does anyone know the issue?

Hi @Daniel_Huynh_1794 , and welcome to SimpleFOC!

I think you are affected by a “bug” affecting only platformio. On platformio you need an additional build flag that isn’t needed on Arduino IDE.

Please add
lib_archive = false
to your platformio.ini and let us know how it goes then…

I would also have said that high and low sides are reversed here, but I guess this depends on your hardware setup…

Hi Runger,

Thank you so much for your help

Please add
lib_archive = false

It is working when i added your code above.
Now, I can test with 6PWM and 3PWM with exactly the frequency setting.

I would also have said that high and low sides are reversed here, but I guess this depends on your hardware setup…

Yes. That’s right. I’m designing the hardware for motor control unit applied to E-scooter. We need to simpleFOC to test some HW function.

@Daniel_Huynh_1794

out of curiosity are you pairing mosfets 2x2 to get double throughput?

Interesting Project.

I think the boards will fail when they age, because of cracks in the PCB.
I happened to read about testing this :
