Roll motor position Theory

Hi,

I am designing a 3-axis gimbal and facing some challenges. For the pitch axis, support on the opposite side prevents overshoot. The yaw axis, being on top, has the center of gravity positioned to handle the weight load. How does the roll axis maintain balance with support on only one side? What is the theory behind this?

Good question. The roll axis stays balanced because the mass is centered on the roll axis itself, so gravity doesn’t create a turning moment even though it’s only supported on one side. As long as the center of mass lies on the axis of rotation, the motor only has to overcome inertia, not weight imbalance.
