Any idea on how the stator is removed from a BLDC? I’ve removed the locking screw on the bottom and lifted the top outer shell (bell?) with all the magnets from it, I can’t work out how to get the stator off, I can’t see 2 screws under the stator but it looks like they are just to hold the PCB onto the bottom. Can’t for the life of me work it out and need to rewire it.
Usually it’s glued to the bearing tube. Are you intending to reassemble it back like that afterward? The only way I’ve ever gotten it off is to press out the bearings and machine the aluminum out from the center. I use a CNC mill, but it would also be doable on a manual mill with rotary table, or a lathe.
I’ve heard of people using a soldering iron to heat it from the center until the glue softens, but it didn’t work for me. One guy used screws through the bottom to press it off while hot, so that’s a possibility if you’re going to rewind it anyway. But also possible it will just crush through the windings and the green enamel and bend the laminations before the glue breaks.
Let me know if you figure anything out. I usually want to preserve the windings and install the stator onto a custom machined part, and it’s hard to machine it free without also cutting into the stator and/or getting chips in the windings which will eventually erode the insulation.
