Hey! Yesterday I powered up a SimpleFOC Mini with 10V and 2A. Then I noticed the led was not as bright as normally and found out the it pulls a consistent 1A without any inputs.
Yeah it is cooked like you said! Even with all wiring removed it pulls 1amp. I’ll try to check with a multimeter just for fun.
To be honest, I am not entirely sure what to poke for with the multimeter. I looked over the schematics for the DVR8313 and it is a bit too complex for me to fully understand what signs I should expect form the multimeter.
Do you got any tips for common things to check to indicate a chip being fried?
Yes, you looking for shorts with the multi meter… so if VDD, 5V, VS or any other voltage is shorted to ground, or if the resistance is very low.
You can also use to multimeter to check that diodes have the forward voltage you expect, and if you apply power (carefully, with current limited by PSU) you can probe the voltages to see where the power is going.
But in the end it’s limited what you can check with a mutimeter. A thermal camera would be very useful to help finding the damaged components, but those are unfortunately quite expensive once they have a resolution to be useful.
