Driver for Nema 23 Stepper Motors (2.8 amp per phase, 4 wire)

Hey guys,

I’m working on a senior capstone design project and my group is creating an automated lighting system that features a moving robotic arm. For the 2 lower joints, I am planning on using a couple of nema 23s (Link to specific motor) and at first we were gonna use some TB6600s we already purchased but then I came across SimpleFOC and these drivers don’t work with the library. With that being said, I’ve been having an issue finding a driver that can handle the current draw of these motors and work with the SimpleFOC library. I have a few l298ns that I’ll use for a nema 17 in one of the upper joints but the l298ns are only rated for 2 A… Does anyone have any driver recommendations that will work with nema 23s rated for 2.8 A?

Thanks,
Noah Castor

Welcome, @noahcastor !

Wish I could help you more, but I don’t know anything about steppers… I’m using only BLDCs with simplefoc so far.

But if you’re happy with the performance of the L298N, you can wire them up in parallel to double the current capacity… see figure 7 in the datasheet.
