This new product from TI looks interesting:

The reference design is 404ing at the moment
I think the idea is that you buy 3 LMG2100R044 half bridges ($4 each) which can be driven directly by 3.3v mcu pins. Could really simplify designs.

The video also some new specialist current sensing chips.
