Hi guys,

We have recently published a new release 2.4.0 with a lot of nice new features.

> Hey! No I did not implement it as a unified hardware specific abstraction for the moment. Honestly, I also wanted to see how people will use it and if it’s gonna be good enough. We do not even use it for inline sensing on stm32. But we might do it for the next release!

And we have also recenlty asked for your help in identifying the next important milestones for SimpleFOC.

> Hi guys! SimpleFOC started as a simple Arduino-based FOC implementation 6 years ago, and thanks to this community it has grown into a tool used by thousands of makers and engineers. The ecosystem around us has also evolved: PCB manufacturing is easier, new MCUs and open-source motor-control projects exist, and software development is more accessible than ever. This gives us a great opportunity to focus SimpleFOC on the features and improvements that bring the most value to you. Where we’d lik…

One of the important things was the need for a better GUI tool, SimpleFOCStudio is starting to be a bit old and is hard to install sometimes.
Anothe of our apps the SimpleFOC Webcontroller has much potential for better user experience but has so far been equally as bad. Pretty bad UI and not very usable.

Due to its potential I’ve spent some time on the webcontroller and made it more robust, and up to date with the most recent library version. And I’m glad to say that it is actually pretty good.
I’d be happy to spend a bit more time on it if more people start using it. We can push it much further than its current state.

Basically the main features are:

- New simpler UI
- More parameters exposed
- Better and more robust monitoring (should not break if too much incoming data)
- Up to date with 2.4.0 (motion and torque control settings)
- Added motor parameters section
- Added a simple step function signal generator (For tuning control loops)
- Advanced features
  - Can launch automatic motor characterisation `motor.characteriseMotor()`
  - Can launch Current PI aut-otuning: `motor.tuneCurrentController()`
  - Can call the sensor re-alignment in runtime: `motor.initFOC()`

- I’ve also added INFO boxes pointing to the relevant docs and briefly explaining the parameters

So yeah let me know what you think and we can go further with this if there is enough interest!

This is great!
I could literally start tuning my motor in two clicks. And for the first time, my motor parameters were loaded correctly. I haven’t tested it thoroughly, but it’s already a big plus over previous solution.

FYI: I had to install a WebSerial plugin for Firefox, but now it seems to work.

Does it make sense to call motor.monitor() everytime in the loop() or better call it less frequently? (like motor.move() ?)

IMHO it should be strapped to the BAUD-rate of serial port, but we’d need to know the loop-time to estimate the downscale factor

@Antun_Skuric I’ve used it a lot during the last 2 weeks and it’s great so far.

There are some minor things I’d change in the UI, like remembering the last BAUD-rate and how I’ve set up the split screen.

It’s also annoying that I have to close arduinoIDE before opening the serial connection.

Then I’ve noticed that **Vq** is in [V] while **Iq** is in [mA]. Trying to monitor both values at once is impossible.

On the left are greyed-out values, which should show the initial value I guess. But they follow the new set parameter instantly

I’d also like to see an “interval” in the _step-generator_, so I can command a full turn but in small steps for position control debugging.
